Tapping into the global workforce can take your business to the next level. In fact, 83% of Chief Financial Officers believe that global expansion and long-term growth are correlated. However, companies need the right global team to get there.
In our eBook “Global Employment Guide: Strategic Alignment for Executive, HR, Finance, and Legal Leaders” we discuss the differences between navigating global expansion alone versus using an Employer of Record (EOR). For finance leaders, the EOR approach eliminates compliance headaches while mitigating the risks and costs involved in global employment.
To dive deeper into this topic, Drew Murphy, VP of Strategy at G-P, and Mary Christie, Principal Consultant for Business Transformation Practice at ADP, sat down for an insightful webinar that explored how the G-P-ADP partnership empowers financial leaders to expand globally.
In this session, Mary and Drew explored:
- The G-P and ADP partnership
- Challenges financial leaders face
- The value of best-in-class integrations
Here are a few takeaways from their discussion.
How payroll and EOR solutions work together to drive success
Mary: “In my experience, the way ADP and G-P work together brings great synergy for our clients. When a company wants to hire an employee or keep employees in certain countries where they’re already established, have banking, and have the employment numbers they need, ADP can very easily pay in over 140 countries.
However, if a company is looking to go to a new geography where they’re not established and don’t have feet on the ground, that’s where G-P comes in. It opens up the possibilities for organizations looking to grow or keep people in a location where they might be winding things down. Working with a partner like ADP and G-P brings many benefits to the financial team, eliminating those [compliance] surprises and helping you sleep at night.”
Drew: “It’s a complex world we live in, and all these individual countries have so much potential, talent, and brain power, yet it’s very hard for companies to tap into. You really need expertise and FTE people understanding all the nuances of global employment […] It’s like printing out a map and seeing all the lines across all the different countries, from where our billing entities are, where our companies exist, and where their clients are. It’s this huge spiderweb of lines that goes across the globe. And between both our companies [ADP and G-P], we help connect those spiderwebs and help them work synergistically.”

Top 3 global employment challenges for finance leaders
Mary: “First, the challenges are based on the “why.” If a company wants to go global or expand its footprint globally, they may need to access global talent. Looking outside and being able to hire from anywhere is necessary for growth, yet it can be complex.
The second challenge is that companies want to expand fast. They don’t want to drag their heels and miss that market opportunity or let a competitor get in there before them. But getting there quickly requires knowledge of where you’re going. It’s hard being an employer in many countries and understanding the ins and outs of employment and compliance.
The last one is the challenge of managing talent in multiple countries. When you’ve got a large presence in a country, you’re likely going to have finance, legal, and HR teams in place to support your teams. But when you’re looking to be nimble and have just a handful of employees in different countries, keeping those people engaged and making sure that they are paid accurately and on time can be difficult.
That’s where the Employer of Record fills the gap.”
All-in-one solutions vs. best-in-class partnerships
Audience question: A company that offers EOR, payroll, and an all-in-one platform has been in talks with my peers in HR. It seems like staying with ADP, who we have been using, and integrating with G-P would be easier on our finance team. Can you speak on this? Our HR team likes the idea of a single source of truth.
Drew: “Employees are essential to your company’s success. How you treat and manage their employment isn’t something that you want to take lightly, especially when it comes to their paychecks and managing HR. ADP and G-P have been around longer than the competition. Our global teams have seen everything, and we use that knowledge to relentlessly make our customers and their team members’ experience that much better.
We invest in our people to ensure that each and every employee on our platforms feels like they have an HR rep they can count on or call whenever. ADP and G-P also have integrations, which help make the two platforms operate as one, as well as single sign-on and employee data syncing across platforms. So, you should always be on the lookout for new companies and new tech to help you function more efficiently, but make sure to do your due diligence.”

Mary: “Our collective experience in over 180 countries means we’ve seen almost everything and helped our clients succeed in all these different markets. I don’t think going to a new vendor just because of a technology piece is a good enough reason. However, G-P and ADP have also innovated and brought new technologies to the market that no one else has ever done. We both have AI initiatives that won’t just help practitioners, but managers and employees too. AI depends on data, and we’ve got more data between our organizations than anyone else. So staying with your trusted vendors, the folks that you already know and are comfortable with, will set you up for success.”
