The Election Effect: 3 in 5 Leaders say Global Election Results will Dramatically Impact Business Strategy

G-P surveyed 1,600 executives around the globe, to unpack how the current geopolitical environment will impact global business decisions, global expansion strategies and global hiring choices. Executives anticipate the 2024 elections will have an unprecedented influence on global business, with nearly all (90%) expecting them to be more impactful than any previous year. A majority of executives believe the election results have the potential to dramatically change their business strategy (57%).

The findings revealed, across the globe executives expect the following elections to have the most impact on their businesses:

  • 98% of executives plan to expand their global presence over the next 12 months, and 3 in 5 see growing their workforce as a top three priority
  • Executives in the UK report the U.S. election is expected to have the biggest impact on global business (58%), followed by the U.K. (44%), European Parliament (35%) and India (25%).
  • 64% of Australian executives expect the U.S. elections to have the biggest impact on their global business, followed by the UK (48%) and the European Parliament (28%)
  • 55% of German executives expect the European Parliament Election to have the biggest impact on global businesses, closely followed by the Presidential Election in the US (48%).

Additionally, the findings showed that a majority of executives across markets may avoid doing business in certain markets based on results of the elections, including 92% of executives in the U.S., 88% of executives in the U.K., 92% of executives in Australia and 81% of Singaporean executives.
