As a recognized leader in the Employer of Record (EOR) industry, G-P is always advancing the conversation around the future of work and the new opportunities our EOR solutions are helping to create. In a recent episode of our Pangeo Perspectives podcast, we explored how positivity can help prepare high-performance teams to reach the pinnacle of success, both in the sports world and the business world.
Sports and business are both competitive environments that strive for excellence. The two areas are connected through shared principles: strategy and performance. Success often hinges on effective leadership and teamwork, but one factor that is typically overlooked is the power of positivity.
Connacht Rugby Head Coach Pete Wilkins shared some inspiring insights and game-changing perspectives on our Pangeo Perspectives podcast. Let’s take a look at some of the ways positivity can empower and improve teams in both the sports and business worlds.
Sharing a collective vision
One of the biggest factors that makes a team successful is a shared purpose and collective goal. When all members of an organization know what the group stands for and what the vision is, it creates a shared determination to push toward that vision and work together to achieve it.
Laying out expectations for your organization and rallying the team around them sets a standard and motivates everyone to perform at their best. Introducing these expectations and goals in an uplifting way, encourages teams across the board to embrace and view challenges in a positive light.
It’s so important for people to be able to remain positive on that journey and feel like they’re contributing to the wider cause, even if they’re not the guy that plays on the weekend, or the CEO in an organization, or the person that is face-to-face with clients.

Remaining positive when things go wrong
Positivity is easy when everything is going your way, but what about when things don’t go according to plan? As much as we’d like all of our plans to be executed perfectly and exactly the way we hoped, that’s not realistic in the world of sports, business, or life in general. But in the face of adversity, knowing what your organization stands for, staying true to established principles, and delivering consistently can help maintain a culture of positivity.
A positive team doesn’t just withstand pressure; it adjusts and adapts. Positivity and resilience go hand in hand. Your team will get knocked down at some point, but how does it respond to adversity? The willingness to bounce back even stronger than before is a defining marker of a positive team. Every challenge is an opportunity for growth.
It’s not about mental toughness anymore; it’s about mental resilience. It’s that ability, not just to withstand pressure, but to put yourself back together as quickly as possible afterwards.

Leading teams into positivity
The leader of a sports team or a company sets the tone for the entire organization. As a manager of players or employees, the way you approach a situation has an enormous impact on how your team responds and reacts. Shaping obstacles as opportunities and finding positive takeaways from what seem like negative circumstances creates a buy-in from everyone on the team.
As a leader, it’s key to recognize that failure isn’t the opposite of success; it’s a part of the process. Keeping the focus on the collective vision and extracting lessons from mistakes is a sign of strong leadership and one that will instill positivity throughout the team.
Anything is possible with positive teams.
From the rugby pitch to the office, positivity is a powerful force. Teams that share a common purpose, remain resilient in the face of adversity, and have a leader who creates meaningful connections, can achieve anything. When individuals feel part of something bigger and believe they can achieve it together with their team, that’s when the magic begins.
